The basic management of the airway is done through the simple maneuvers already presented in the chapter dedicated to cardiopulmonary resuscitation:

-        Hyperextension of the head and raising the mandible with a palm on the forehead and two fingers raising the mandible.

-        The maneuver will not be performed in case of suspected cervical spine injury.

-        Subluxation of the mandible is performed in cases of suspected trauma with spinal injury. The mandible is moved anteriorly with the four fingers of both hands placed at the level of the gonion, and the oral cavity is opened with the cheekbones placed on the chin. Subluxation of the mandible is associated with in-line stabilization of the head and neck.

-        Removal of oropharyngeal foreign bodies with Magill forceps or suction probe.

-        Oxygen will always be administered in parallel with airway management maneuvers.
