Technique
· The medical assistant washes and disinfects his hands;
· He puts on disposable gloves;
· Before taking a blood sample from the fingertip, the sampling site must be dry, clean and warm;
· If necessary, to dilate the capillaries, warm, wet compresses can be applied for 10 minutes, or the arm can be left down to promote blood circulation;
· Remove a test strip from the foil and attach it to the glucometer, inserting it with the side with black lines in front of the device;
· The meter will automatically turn on, displaying the message "apply the drop" or a drop indicating this. At this moment the device is ready to apply blood to the end of the test strip;
· The lancing device of the glucometer or the sterile needle is used (puncturing the site in one short and quick movement) to obtain a drop of blood from the pulp of the finger;
· Do not squeeze the puncture site.
· Touch the drop of blood to the white area at the end of the test strip, making sure that there is a sufficient amount of blood, then wait a few seconds until the machine displays the result.
· The blood will be absorbed into the strip and the device starts testing.
· The display screen shows the countdown;
· If the countdown does not start, not enough blood has been applied to the test strip.
· A second drop of blood is added to the strip no later than 30 seconds after the first application.
· Dacă nici acum nu începe numărătoarea inversă şi au trecut mai mult de 30 secunde, se aruncă bandeleta de test, se opreşte glucometrul, se încarcă din nou cu o nouă bandeletă.
· The result of the blood glucose test appears on the display screen and is stored in the glucometer's memory. Note the displayed result, date and time.
· After harvesting, an alcohol pad is applied, maintaining compression on the puncture site until the bleeding stops.
· The glucometer stops automatically, after the test strip is removed from the slot of the device.
WORKPLACE REORGANIZATION
· Collect the used materials in special containers, according to UP (universal precautions)
· Wash your hands;
· Record the procedure in the file or care plan: name, first name of the nurse who performed the test, date and time: recorded value.
ACCIDENTS / INCIDENTS
· Inserting the needle too deeply can damage a nerve;
· Local infections, in case of non-compliance with aseptic work rules;
· Puncture of a blood vessel:
· Stinging a nerve - there is vivid, intense pain that radiates from - along the nerve;
· Postinjection hematoma;
· Needle breakage;
· Postinjection phlegmon due to asepsis defects.
REMARKS
· Plasma and capillary blood glucose are similar as long as the measurements are performed under fasting conditions, still post-prandial values change, in capillary blood the blood glucose constantly has higher values.
· Do not squeeze the puncture site;
· Antiseptic solutions are not used because they negatively influence the measurement.
· When using the glucometer for the first time, its setting is done
· The normal value of blood sugar is between 90-120 mg of glucose per 100 ml of blood.
· Pre-prandial capillary blood glucose (before meals): 90-130 mg/dl (5-7.2 mmol/1)
· Post-prandial capillary blood sugar (measurement 1-2 hours after a meal is recommended) < 180mg/dl.
